This course provides the knowledge and skills necessary to properly handle suicidal callers. The course is designed to inform the 9-1-1 Dispatcher about the suicidal mind and specific courses of action when confronted with a suicide call.

Up to 8 hours of CE credit can be earned by taking this course.
Objectives
The communications officer should be able to:
- Understand common myths about suicide
- Understand the answers to frequently asked questions about suicidal people
- Understand suicide
- Understand suicidal people
- Demonstrate how to effectively handle a suicide call
NOTE: In addition to an experienced communications officer, it is suggested that someone trained in handling suicide calls be allowed to co‐teach the class. Suggestions include law enforcement experts in suicidal people and experts from suicide hot lines.
